A loan helped a family open our cozy cafe to serve our community and build generational wealth.

Kamisha's story

My husband Kenneth has a passion for coffee, more coffee and more coffee. Our new business K&K Barista was developed so we could be fully engaged with our community and create a space that is comforting and warm to all. With a family of seven children, we are used to a busy life and we are excited with our plans of business ownership as a means to also build generational wealth. We have been working at getting all the pieces of this dream together since 2022.

I grew up on the north side of Milwaukee and Kenneth grew up in Chicago and we now call the friendly city of West Allis home. I have a strong background in retail and customer service and earned certifications in dietary and food service while working in a nursing home. Kenneth has a degree in Business Management from Milwaukee Area Technical College. I am currently working in the healthcare field and taking college courses and Kenneth is an Electrical Tester and we have diligently been saving to start our business.

We have worked hard over the last two years working with local resources to establish our business and have enjoyed working with coffee roasters to develop our craft. We reached out to the City of West Allis economic development team and have a GREAT location. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has been a lifeline and has worked with us on a business plan, projections and reviewing our lease. With all these tools in place our attention is now turned to OPENING!
