A loan helped 200+ Mexican artisans earn a higher income making climate-neutral apparel using recycled materials.

Someone Somewhere's story

Someone Somewhere is on a mission to lift millions of artisans out of poverty through job creation and nature regeneration. Over 12 million artisans in Mexico, predominantly women in poverty, struggle with no access to sustainable and quality material, no access to global markets, and no organization to deliver productions at scale to large customers.

Someone Somewhere is a social enterprise that transforms traditional crafts into modern, eco-friendly apparel and accessories. Their model, rooted in sustainable practices using recycled materials, has empowered 230 artisans, aiming for 370 by 2025, and produced 10 million climate-neutral products last year.

Kiva’s loan is pivotal for building a new plant, crucial for enhancing quality control and supply chain efficiency, directly supporting their growth and ability to uplift more artisans. Lending to Someone Somewhere means contributing to a venture that not only elevates artisanal heritage but also champions social and environmental responsibility, making a tangible difference in the lives of artisans and pushing for a more sustainable fashion industry. This is Someone Somewhere’s first loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program.

This loan is special because:

It enables artisans in Mexico to earn an income.
