A loan helped a new family-owned African restaurant in Illinois share love with its community.

Kennedy's story

I am Kennedy. I came from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United States of America in 2013 with my wife, Kety. We have three wonderful kids together – two girls and one boy who are eight, six, and five years old. We are settled in Champaign, Illinois and we really have made it home. It is a small town but it is increasingly growing with new visitors and activities.

My wife and I always dreamt of starting an African restaurant together here in Champaign – like we had back in Congo. As immigrants early on in America, we felt we had no way to start a business at first. So I worked in a warehouse for many years, but the idea kept coming up with me and my wife. In 2020, we decided to make the restaurant happen.

We will work hard to make this dream come true – I am excited to share my story with you here!
