A loan helped to purchase more equipment to open up job opportunities for my trucking business.

Tevaris's story

In 2018, I was convicted for possession of a firearm. It was when I arrived in prison that it really hit me, I can do better than this. I knew one of my lowest points in life would be on record for everyone to see, leaving prison, I would always be seen as lesser in the eyes of my fellow citizens. While others wasted their days playing cards or watching movies, I decided to take advantage of my time and become the best version of myself. I took anger management classes, time management, self-improvement classes, I took them all and by the end of my sentence, I had received over 22 certificates.

I tried to give myself a better chance at life by learning and growing as a person. As it turns out, my 4 years of effort wasn’t enough to get myself a job after being released. I was turned down by so many employers, but it was one interview in particular that broke me. I walked into a room of four faces I had never seen before, and in looking at me, then my resume, they all laughed simultaneously and said, “you think you can get a job here with a past?”. It was only after I got in my car that I noticed I was crying. Nobody thought I deserved a second chance at life, so I decided to give myself one by creating my own company, Tevaris Trustworthy Transports.
