María is 58 years old, is divorced, and lives with her two children, who she educated on her own. They are now grown and work to help out in the home. María is charismatic and sociable, and she works raising cuyes (guinea pigs). She sells them alive or prepares them ready for grilling. Cuy is an exquisite dish that has high nutritional value, which is why it is consumed in the mountain regions of Ecuador.
María is asking for a loan in order to buy guinea pigs, alfalfa, herbs, and vegetables. In this way she will be able to raise more cuyes, strengthen her business, and improve her income margen as well as her family income.
María extends a cordial thank you to all of the people who form part of Kiva's foundation.
