A loan helped to purchase 3,000 water filters to provide safe drinking water to 20,000 rural Kenyans.

Nazava Water Filters Kenya's story

In rural Kenya, most households rely on surface water for their daily drinking needs. Unfortunately, this water is often contaminated with animal waste, detergents, and other pollutants, leading to the spread of water-born diseases such as diarrhea and cholera. Because of a lack of resources, many people are unable to boil their water before consumption.

Nazava Water Filters Kenya has been working to address this issue by providing affordable and effective water filters to rural communities. Through a network of sales agents called Safe Water Experts, Nazava sells its filters to members of Micro Finance Institutes (MFIs) at reduced upfront costs, which can be paid back in monthly installments. The filters are capable of turning dirty ponds, rivers, rain, and tap water into clean, fresh, and healthy drinking water without the need for boiling or electricity.

In the previous loan, Nazava Kenya purchased 3,000 water filters, providing safe drinking water to nearly 20,000 people. The Kiva loan was very significant to Nazava Kenya’s impact, and they would like to apply for a new loan to purchase another 3,000 water filters that can provide drinking water filters to nearly 20,000 people.

This loan is special because:

It will expand production and sales of water filters for safe drinking water in Kenya.
