A loan helped to purchase straw in large quantities to weave more baskets to meet her customers' demands.

Anita's story

Anita is a 33-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her family in Bongo District in Ghana. She has a basketry business.

With her previous Kiva loan she expanded her basketry business and used the profits she earned to reinvest in her business. Anita is requesting another loan to purchase straw in large quantities to weave more baskets to meet her customers' demands.

She plans to use the profits she earns to support her family's daily needs. She will repay the "social interest" on her second loan by volunteering 2.5 hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, facilitating classes from CAMFED’s "My Better World" program with students at her local secondary school, helping to build their self-esteem and motivating them to remain in school.

This loan is special because:

It provides 0% interest loans to entrepreneurs that give back to their community by mentoring.
