A loan helped to buy more beans, pepper, oil, rice and other items to sell.

Mary's story

Mary is 44 years old from Liberia. She has four children who attend school and live at home. Mary attended school up to tenth grade. She deals in a business selling beans, pepper, oil, rice and other items. She learned how to sell from her mother and started the business with her own savings. She uses a taxi to transport supplies at her business site and sells Monday through Saturday.

To continue her sales, Mary applied for a loan through BRAC Liberia, a Kiva lending partner. This financing will be used to buy more beans, pepper, oil, rice and other items to sell in order to repay her loan and increase her income. She likes her business because it gives her income. Her dream for the future is to open a big shop. Mery is highly grateful for the financial support BRAC and KIVA have rendered.

This loan is special because:

It serves low-income individuals in rural Liberia where few alternative funding sources exist.
