A loan helped to buy more cooking oil and other items to fry cassava .

Jennifer's story

Jennifer is 39 years old and lives in the town of Gaba in the Makindye region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 2 years, Jennifer has been working hard to manage her catering business, which sells fried cassava.

To help expand her business, Jennifer has requested a loan of 900,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more cooking oil and other items to fry cassava. It will help Jennifer generate greater profits and improve her family's standard of living by providing enough food for her family. Jennifer hopes that, in the future, she will be able to expand her business into a big retail shop.

Jennifer is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves Small Group members like Jennifer who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
