A loan helped a woman-owned, disability-owned drinks brand launch in Whole Foods.

Shelley's story

When I was diagnosed with a rare neurological malady as a result of a whale-watching trip (really!), I broke up with booze to protect my health. I then realized how few mocktails tasted delicious and adult, and also met my high ingredient standards. As a cocktails enthusiast with a wide knowledge and training in the use of herbs, I then got busy in the kitchen and launched For Bitter For Worse in early 2020.

My former work life focused on food security, supporting organic farms, and social & environmental justice. I thrive when my work has a higher purpose. My personal mission is to create a healthier, more inclusive culture.

Alcohol misuse is the 4th leading cause of preventable death in the US. Our culture is soaked in booze, and people who aren’t drinking can feel left out of social and even workplace events. We know that occasion-appropriate adult alternatives help people meet their moderation and abstention goals. Every week I receive emails from customers telling me that our products improve their lives, that they feel empowered to socialize and meet their health or sobriety goals. That impact is what makes me proud and keeps me going.

This loan is special because:
