Joseph's story

Joseph is 42 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Mityana region of Uganda. He is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 5 years, Joseph has been working hard to manage his produce business.

To help expand his business, Joseph has requested a loan of 5,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more vanilla and coffee for resale, and will help Joseph to generate greater profits and improve his family's standand of living by providing them with enough food. Joseph hopes that in the future he will be able to build rental units for business.

Joseph is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Joseph who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
