A loan helped a member to buy a solar-powered surface water pump.

Kanyelele Group's story

Kalirani is a 40-year-old man. He is married with four children, and they are all in school. He is a maize farmer with experience in this field for ten years. He is a leader in the Kanyelele group, and in the picture, he is standing second from the right, wearing a red t-shirt with a hand raised.

The new loan will help him purchase a solar-powered surface irrigation pump that will help him grow more than once a year and increase his farm produce. In addition, maize prices in Malawi are growing daily because demand is high while supply is low, and most people are striving hard to get maize, a staple food.

Having solar-powered irrigation equipment has always been his dream, and this FIFAD program will make his dream come true. His goal is to be a farmer with a decent life in his community. The profits from farming will help him purchase other farm inputs like fertilizer, and different yields will help him support his family with basic needs.
