A loan helped to purchase fashionable adult clothing for resale.

Jamirah's story

Jamirah is 31-years-old and lives in the town of Matuga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children, 3 of whom are currently in school. For the past 7 years, Jamirah has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of fashionable adult clothing like shirts, dresses and shoes.

To help expand her business, Jamirah has requested a loan of 4000000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more adult clothing for resale, which will help her to generate greater profits. Her income pays not only for the basic needs for her family, but also pays for the children's school fees. Jamirah hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a house of her own.

Jamirah is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Jamirah who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for micro loans.
