A loan helped to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale.

Edith's story

Edith is 27 years old and lives in the town of Matugga in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has 2 children who are both currently in school. For the past 5 years, Edith has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells all kinds of adult clothes, like shirts and dresses .

To help expand her business, Edith has requested a loan of 3,500,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more fashionable clothes for resale. This will help Edith generate greater profits and manage to pay some of the household bills, food and basic needs for the family. Edith hopes that in the future she will be able to buy land and build a house of her own.

Edith is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Edith who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
