As I’ve dived into the world of coffee, I’ve found countless stories yet to be told! Coffee plays a major role in world history. Believed to have originated in Ethiopia, it has since spread to every corner of the earth. Coffee tells the stories of immigrants, farmers, royalty, religion, families, thieves, healers, monks, slaves and everything in between. No other drink is as deeply ingrained into the world’s way of life. These captivating stories hunger to be told and by doing so, we can ignite excitement, passion, curiosity and connection with our world.
Most of the coffee we drink in the U.S. today, simply supplies us with a dose of caffeine and sugar and gets us through the monotony of the day. But have you ever wondered how people drink their coffee in Vietnam? Have you tried a café cubano or put cheese in your coffee? Did you know that Ethiopians eat coffee cherries after cooking them with butter? Can you find any of this at the local cafe down the street? Not usually.
My mission is to tell the stories of coffee culture through a thoughtful at-home coffee experience in a box; and bring excitement and awareness to coffee culture to those who are just as passionate about coffee as I am! I’m very proud of how far I have come and hope to continue the journey.

Business Description
Ki Coffee box is a curated subscription box that tells the stories of coffee and its history in different cultures around the world. Each box includes coffee, recipes, ingredients and tools needed to create an authentic experience from home. Each new box allows you to explore a new country and learn about their coffee history. As I continue to grow, I plan to source the coffee directly from the farmers and roasters so that I can also tell their stories and support their businesses. I’m also implementing an initiative to give a percentage of profits back to the featured farmers and roasters to help provide economic stability in coffee production.
I’ve been working in coffee the last couple of years with the hopes of opening up my own coffee shop. But I began to realize that no one in the industry is really talking about the culture of coffee. When I had my first Turkish coffee, I knew I wanted to know more about how other cultures drink coffee, but had a very difficult time finding good accessible information. So I decided to create the Ki Coffee subscription box earlier this year as a way to solve that problem. I’m currently selling boxes at markets but we will be a subscription box by December of this year.
I’m scaling quite quickly and have several more markets this year and will be launching the subscription before Christmas. The biggest challenges I have so far are having enough cash flow to purchase the inventory I need for the markets, renting a space big enough for my work, and implementing successful marketing strategies. What is the purpose of this loan?
I plan to use most of this loan for purchasing inventory such as coffee, ingredients, and tools for the different boxes. I also plan to rent a space for a commissary and the remainder of the loan will be used towards initial rent costs. My ultimate goal is to bring in enough revenue from our September - November markets so that we can launch the subscription in December.
Specifically, Kiva loan funds will go toward: Inventory for Market #1; Inventory for Market #2; Inventory for Market #3; Inventory for Corporate Gifting; Website Redesign; Marketing with Influencers, Facebook Ads; and Booth fee for Market #1.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
