A loan helped a member to buy shoes and handbags to sell.

06_Sainte Thérèse Group's story

This group is composed of five women sharing strong ties of solidarity and mutual aid. The women live in the same neighborhood and jumped at the chance to join the 'banc villageois’ when it was set up in town in December 2007. Their main work is in small-scale commerce.

Ms. Jeanne Hélène (sitting at the far right in the photo with a hand raised) is the group's representative. She is 50, married, and the mother of three children, including a daughter. She has a small-scale business selling footwear and handbags. She enjoys experience in this business for having done it for several years.

With this new loan, she intends to buy shoes and handbags in Dakar to resell to her customers.

With the profits, she is planning to develop her business, boost her savings, and see to her children’s education.

In this group: Marie Rose Louise , Georgette, Marie Cécile, Jeanne Hélène, Néné
