Las Flores De Lote 3 Group's story

Elsa is 32 years old and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, but never practiced her profession. She is the proud manager of a cardamom business. In addition, nine months ago, she started a second business selling food at a school and college in the mornings and afternoons. She also sells on Saturdays at her customers' homes.

Elsa separated from her husband six years ago and has gotten by with her two girls (5 and 14) who attend kindergarten and seventh grade. Thanks to these businesses she has been able to pay her household expenses.

Elsa applied for her first loan from Kiva to buy ingredients, fruit, and second-hand clothes to start a new business. With excitement she envisions a prosperous business in the future, buying land, and building her house.

The communal bank of Puente de Amistad "Las Flores de Lote 3", has seven women members who speak the Mayan languages Q'eqchi and Pocomchi, in addition to Spanish. They live in the Department/State of Quiché, and they want to continue investing in agricultural businesses, small animal farms (chickens, turkeys, ducks), and convenience stores.

In addition to the loan, the women also have the benefit of receiving monthly training as part of the loan, education, and health program "Microcredit Plus". The training classes are vital for the women's empowerment and business success. They are trained in business, entrepreneurship, self-esteem, rights, and health. Thank you.
