Julietas 3 Group's story

Juana is 53 years old, she has 8 children, her parents could not support her studies, she is illiterate. When she was a little child, she worked with her parents in the fields cleaning the coffee and the cornfield; when she was young, she worked cutting coffee and cardamom.

She got married when she was 15, she and her husband went to work in cutting coffee and cardamom, this was the principal activity of her community.

Her husband was the mayor of their community, one of the promoters of Chajulense Association of Women United for Life talked to him about the credit opportunities for women. She got interested. This year she got her fifth credit, she has invested all of them in the cleaning and harvesting of coffee and cardamom.

Juana is the leader of group Julietas 3, the group is made up of 5 women, 2 from de Ixil Maya ethnicity, and 3 from the Qʼanjobʼal Maya ethnicity. The group will invest their loans in agriculture 60%, and textiles 40%.

On average, each member of the group has 5 children, the average age of the members of the group is 39 years old. 60% are illiterate, and 40% ended their primary education.
