A loan helped a refugee-owned business provide medical transportation services for special needs patients.

Fiston's story

I immigrated to the United States from Congo in 2004. I left the Congo to escape the wars that occurred. I stayed in the US until 2008 when I moved to Canada but I returned to the USA in 2015 and have lived in Vermont ever since.

I worked at a variety of jobs after coming to USA. One of those jobs was as a custodian at the University of Vermont Hospital emergency department. I became aware that many patients were transported to the hospital by ambulance but had no transportation home. The hospital utilized the services of two companies to drive people home but the service to those people was unsatisfactory in that the vehicles were not clan, not wheelchair accessible and the drivers were not well trained in caring for the sick.
I started New Life Transportation LLC to address these issues and provide first class service to the hospital and its patients.

I have been an entrepreneur since I was 12 years old. I continue to support business in the Congo through my ownership of a bakery and farm in my hometown. These are operated by my brother. New Life Transportation has become my passion and I continue to provide the services that I set out to provide. The hospital is pleased with my service, and I have many good friends working there.

This loan is special because:

It supports a small business owner with 0%-interest, zero-fee capital.
