Vencedoras De Zunilito Group's story

A woman empowered through the "Microcredit Plus" program of Puente de Amistad, results in having a business that allows her to employ other people.

Twenty-four-year-old Nanci is a woman who has been working from rented premises for five years, offering delicious corn tortillas. She employs a woman who helps her increase the production during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Nanci is a married woman who helps her husband provide better living conditions for her two children, aged three and eight.

Right now, she wants to continue investing in the business and offering new products. Nanci applies for her first Kiva loan to buy a variety of groceries. As a future goal, she wants to have bigger, more stable and more popular businesses.

There are 10 women who live in the Department (state) of Suchitepéquez and are members of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad “Vencedoras de Zunilito”. They have food, clothing, corn mills, and tortilla shops. They had access to a few years of school.

The women meet monthly to make loan payments and participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” loan, education and health program. The purpose of this program is to empower women so that they have the necessary tools to combat poverty.

Kiva lenders empower these women's skills and businesses.
