A loan helped to buy white pandanus for her weaving business.

'Akosita's story

Akosita is a single mother with six children. She and her children live at her sister's house. Along with her sister, she runs a weaving business and earns income to provide for her children and their daily needs. She weaves taovala [a traditional woven mat worn formally to show respect] using white pandanus only.

With this loan, 'Akosita is able to buy pandanus [fibers from the palm-like pandanus tree] for her weaving. Her main priorities are for her children to be well-provided for and well-educated so as to have a chance at a new and better life in the future.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
