A loan helped provide 5,000 rural and indigenous Ecuadorians annually with their first dental care.

Novulis's story

Oral diseases affect 3.5 billion people globally and are the most prevalent diseases, according to the WHO, affecting marginalized groups disproportionately. 90% of indigenous children suffer from dental decay. In Latin America, 3 of 4 people lack access to care and have poor oral health, which can lead to dementia, heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, oral and digestive cancer, gastritis, pregnancy complications, respiratory infections, pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, and more.

Novulis, the highest rated Certified B Corp in Ecuador, operates social clinics that provide affordable, payment-plan dental health to low-income populations in rural areas that have never, or rarely, been to the dentist. Last year Novulis launched an additional mobile dental clinic with a loan from Kiva, helping them reach a milestone of 25,000 patients served.

Kiva’s new loan will enable high-quality, affordable dental care for an additional 5,000 rural patients, structure the company for scale, lower their cost structure, and catalyze a $5M-10M investment lead by SOS Children’s Villages, enabling Novulis to serve +10,000 patients in the coming years. This is Novulis’ second loan through the Kiva Social Enterprise program. View their last loan here.
