Mrs. Binh is 43 years old. She is a Thai ethnic minority woman who lives with her husband and her adult son and daughter-in-law in a poor village in Dien Bien, Viet Nam.
She got married at a very young age. Because of the difficult circumstances, she does not have a high education. After dropping out of school, she was engaged in farming work. Her husband works for a construction employer but it is only seasonal and he has no stable income.
Her daughter-in-law is currently pregnant and stays at home. Her son went to work for a company, taking that income to welcome the baby who is about to be born.
Mrs. Binh’s family relies on agricultural activities to earn money for living, such as growing rice and raising chickens and fish. Her main hardship is rice crop failure and she sometimes has to sell rice at a cheap price under the pressure of traders. She has decided to invest in her fish pond.
This is the thirteenth time she has taken out a loan from the Anh Chi Em program to buy baby fish and food for them. She hopes that this investment will be successful and bring great profit for her family. She dreams her family members will be healthy, her son's family will always be happy and have stable jobs.
