A loan helped a woman-owned small grocery purchase new refrigeration equipment & upgrade shop electrical.

Amanda's story

I am a farmer as well as a grocery owner so I have a passion for local foods grown with natural methods & lots of aloha. I see Kainaliu Fresh Grocery as a way to uplift local farmers, ranchers & fishermen. I am proud to provide access to fresh, Hawai'i Island grown foods to our wonderful small community. I hope to help reduce food waste on island & help Hawai'i residents to reduce dependence on imported foods. My biggest challenge is funding to expand my offerings & upgrade my equipment. I started this business with an extremely tight budget $5000 and a lot of sweat equity. It is already proving to viable venture with a good profit potential.

I feel confident that I could increase selection for my customers, increase sales & reduce waste with some working capital to invest in equipment such as upgraded refrigeration and electrical work on my location. I am very proud of my work so far and I believe that Kainaliu Fresh Grocery can be a pillar of the Kainaliu community and have a positive economic impact for farmers across the island.
