A loan helped an experienced educator provide life skills programs & opportunity to underserved Burlington youth.

Vincent's story

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to take on my mothers true gift and use basketball as a vehicle in my life. Playing the game of basketball, enabled me to obtain a high school scholarship to attend a private school called Paterson Catholic High School, in Paterson New Jersey. Throughout my high school years, we were able to become nationally recognized and ranked number 7th in the nation. I decided to utilize my gift and get myself a basketball scholarship to Champlain College in Burlington, Vt.

Prior to arriving in Burlington, Vermont I would have a passion for teaching kids on multiple levels. I’ve coached and facilitated many basketball camps, clinics, tournaments, and one to one individual works. I’ve been a part of national camps known as A.B.C.D. Camp, as well as coached at camps under Legend Dick Vitale at the Poconos, in Pennsylvania. I always gained great joy from helping youth develop and reach the next level. I felt it was only right to bridge the gap for youth who might have learning difficulties, didn’t have a chance to play at all, and at risk youth with social emotional learning challenges. So I created YPLAY (Youth Participation Leads to Achieving Years) which serves as an empowerment, inspiring, and an enrichment organization looking to enhance life skills, build interpersonal communication skills that will lead to positive learning experiences for our youth and young adults.
