A loan helped a member to purchase more clothing.

Mujeres Con Vision Group's story

Amarilis, a married twenty-seven-year-old woman with one nine-year-old child, has joined forces with her spouse to build a better future. He drives a car where he offers trips. She has been selling casual second-hand clothing in a rented retail space for six years.

Amarilis is a visionary woman who also works two times a week at a small restaurant. Part of her income is designated for her child's primary school education.

Amarilis is asking for her first Kiva loan to purchase more clothing. As she only went to school for nine years, she wants her child to become a professional in the future. As a goal, Amarilis wants to have a larger business and to employ other women in her community.

As president of the Friendship Bridge communal bank Mujeres Con Visión, Amarilis calls the meeting. They are seven Spanish-speaking women who live in the department/state of Suchitepéquez and have businesses such as selling second-hand clothing and selling food. Some of these borrowers sell as street vendors and others rent retail spaces.

They meet monthly and participate in relevant educational trainings, part of the Microcrédito Plus program of loans, education, and health services. This is crucial for their success as they have little or no formal education. The topics of these talks are relevant to their lives and are taken from 4 areas: business, family issues, women's issues, and health.

The Kiva lenders are greatly appreciated.
