A loan helped to purchase farm inputs such as fertilizers and seedlings.

Ruth's story

Meet Ruth, a coffee farmer from Embu in Kenya. She is a hardworking mother of two, married to David who runs his own business.

She has been farming coffee for many years and enjoys seeing a good harvest every season, but struggles with a lack of capital to support her commercial production.

Ruth's dream is to see her children have a better future, and she believes that the loan will help her achieve this by raising more profits and being able to pay for her children's education.

She plans to use the loan to prepare more seed beds and buy more seedlings, as well as purchase fertilizers to boost production. Through her coffee farming, Ruth not only supports her family but also offers employment to those who support her in field preparation and transportation for the coffee products.

She has taken a loan from ECLOF Kenya Limited, Kiva's field partner in the past, which she used to set up her coffee plantation which is now doing well and she is currently paying back her current loan in prepayment. Ruth is grateful for the support and hopes to continue growing her business with the help of the loan. Her dream is to support her children's vision for their lives through education.
