A loan helped a member to buy water tanks.

Las Limas Group's story

Sandra, age 31, is married to a bricklayer. She has five children (one to nine years old). She has three years of formal education. Three of her children go to pre-school and elementary school.

She established a business of selling fruit and smoothies ten years ago. Eight years ago she established a coffee nursery. She is a busy young woman!

As the business has grown considerably, she is requesting her second Kiva loan in order to invest in the agricultural business and to buy five water tanks. Sandra is sure that this will help her so that the plants grow sufficiently healthy in order to later sell them.

Sandra is also the secretary of the Las Limas Communal Bank with Puente de la Amistad. They are nine women, and eight of them speak Mam. They also sell provisions, raise animals, and sell casual and or traditional clothing.

They are excited about requesting their second Kiva loan. They are also very pleased to be able to learn to administer their businesses in an effective way during the monthly educational sessions as part of the “Microcrédito Plus” program with Puente de Amistad.

Due to the fact that formal education historically has not been available to Mayan girls, they empower themselves as they learn about health, hygiene, nutrition, how to prioritize expenses, and how to empower themselves and advance with confidence towards a more brilliant future.

Thank you!
