A loan helped an Los Angeles-based groomer buy a mobile grooming trailer to provide services to more pets.

Shanise's story

I have been working as a veterinary technician since 1990 after obtaining a bachelor degree in Animal Science from UC Davis. I grew up always having many pets ranging from hamsters to horses. My past work experience includes protecting animal actors on movie sets for the “no animals were harmed” credit and working as an animal control officer. I've worked in many animal shelters and veterinary hospitals with animals of all shapes, breeds, and sizes. I truly love animals! Working in the shelters, I saw many unloved and neglected pets that with just a little TLC ( a bath, haircut and bows) could quickly go from being passed up at adoption events to having a waiting list of prospective families! Over the years, I have become very passionate about skin and coat care and I enjoy educating pet owners on all aspects of pet ownership. At the end of a long day, there’s no greater reward than coming home for some cuddles from your four-legged friend… unless they aren’t properly groomed. Stinky breath, greasy fur, or extra sharp nails can make it difficult to enjoy that precious cuddle time. Currently I have to rely on using my client's water, electricity and space.

What I'm really looking forward to is once I am operable with a grooming trailer that provides everything that I need, I will be able to offer my services to more people, donate grooming services to local shelters and rescue groups and provide services to the pet's of the homeless community. I will be able to serve and educate pet owners in communities that are often overlooked, making a service that was once seen as a luxury, affordable.
