A loan helped to pay for coffee farm maintenance, inputs, and supplies.

Barrera Viva Community Bank's story

Located among pine forests, high in the mountains, is Barrera Viva Community Bank, which in English means "Living Barrier". Holding true to its name, this community has managed the soil and pine forest reservoirs in order to keep the farming grounds fertile. They are a hardworking group that has achieved the balance in its membership, having old and new generations working hand in hand to grow and restore their lands.

Founded five years ago, this community bank has grown to 22 members that farm their land with coffee beans and some staple grains; learning to come together and sell as a group and share profits. They have been able to increase their numbers by providing their members with working capital in order to produce better coffee bean yields.

This has proved beneficial for all within Barrera Viva Community Bank because they are reaching sustainability goals and providing for their households. Today they are seeking their first Kiva loan to pay for coffee farm maintenance, inputs, and supplies for this challenging harvesting season; this will help members that are currently farming in groups.

Be a part of this producing initiative and reach new goals with Barrera Viva Community Bank. Here, in the photo, are some of the members.
