Mujeres Valientes Chiantla Group's story

Forty-nine year old Ludivina, the mother of nine children over the age of fifteen, is married to a vegetable farmer. The couple has ten grandchildren. Ludivina has a third grade education and has managed to send her children to primary school. For twenty-five years, she has worked with her husband on the farm growing potatoes. She also sews beautiful traditional aprons/”delantales”. Two years ago, she opened a convenience store. Her goal is to open an additional business! Ludivina would like to invest her first Kiva loan buying more inventory for the store.

Ludivina is President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres Valientes Chiantia” located in the department/state of Huehuetenango. There are eight other Spanish-speaking members of the group who have animal husbandry businesses, sewing workshops, convenience stores and potato farms. Others have convenience stores. They appreciate their monthly educational training since they have little or no formal education. Topics are relevant to their lives (health, family, women, business) and are a part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care. A facilitator designs the training and uses pictures, diagrams, role playing and games to share the information.

Ludivina and her friends appreciate the kindness of Kiva lenders who fund their loans. Thank you to each of you!
