A loan helped to purchase for more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour.

Annet's story

Annet is 42 years old and lives in the town of Gayaza in the Gayaza region of Uganda. She is married and has 4 children who are all currently in school. For the past 5 years, Annet has been working hard to manage her retail shop, which sells general merchandise items like sugar, salt, cooking oil and water.

To help expand her business, Annet has requested a loan of 1,300,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase for more sacks of sugar, salt and maize flour for sale, and will help Annet to generate greater profits and manage to take good care of her child by providing enough food . Annet hopes that in the future she will be able to expand her business into a wholesale shop.

Annet is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small Group members like Annet who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
