Gladys Deyaneira's story

Gladys Deyaneira and her family live in the city of Portoviejo which was affected by the earthquake on 16th April 2016. The city produces an abundance of greens, vegetables and tropical fruits for domestic consumption. Gladys Deyaneira is studying at the University. To pay for her education expenses she sells a variety of products from the catalogues of Avon,Yanbal and Belcorp (Ibel,Cyzone,Esika) (beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and women's accessories) and clothing. She offers the products when visiting her clients homes, she leaves goods on credit and collects weekly. Together with her mother she also prepares and sells individual lasagne meals, fried pork, "encebollados" (a fish stew from Ecuador), rice and lentil stew and roast meats. She takes orders for food at the weekends and makes home deliveries. This loan is to buy chickens, greens, fish, lemons, cosmetics, perfumes and miscellaneous products.
