A loan helped a member to gain access to cost efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Hellen's Group's story

This season is not the first one that Hellen is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2017. Although she is the only person featured in the above picture, she is actually representing her group of 11 farmers in Teso District, Kenya.

Hellen is often described by her community as a very hardworking individual and decided to be the one to represent her group because she likes being a leader. Like many of her fellow farmers, Hellen decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to have access to quality training and acquire new farming methods. She hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to buy a cow.

This loan will not only help Hellen but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 6 acres of land. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light so, with this loan, the group will also receive a total of 4 solar lights.

In this group: Hellen, Elizabeth , Grivina , Christine , Fibi , Sylivia , Esnas , Roselyne , John , Edward , Dorris

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
