A loan helped to purchase more food items such as yams, palm oil, benni (sesame seeds), etc. to increase her business.

Etta's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 48-year-old Etta from Blama Road Branch. She is a married businesswoman with four children between the ages of 10 and 30, who are currently attending school. She started this business to improve herself.

Etta runs a retail business and sells food items to her customers around the community. She has been in this business for the past 12 years. Etta says that her challenge is the increase in prices of goods and transportation in the country.

She requested this loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase more food items such as yams, palm oil, benni (sesame seeds), etc. to increase her business. Etta says that the extra income from this loan will help to take care of her family.

In the future, she would like to expand to a large scale. She says thank you to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
