My name is Mark and I began DJ-ing professionally at the age of 19 – it was my passion for the craft that landed me jobs in some of the most well-known nightclubs in New York and Florida. I've suffered some major setbacks and losses and it wasn't until I was incarcerated for nine years, for a crime that I did not commit, that I made the decision to make every second of my life count.
While in prison I fought for my freedom, day in and day out, until finally the director of the Public Defender's office, Ms. Kelli Thompson, took a look at my case and helped me win my freedom. Although my focus was fighting to be heard and getting someone to see that I was unjustly sitting in prison I knew that I had to do something with my time to prove to the "system" that I was worth a lot more than how they treated me. I immersed myself in education and accomplished a level of achievements that I never thought were possible. I graduated from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Custodial Services, Green Cleaning, and O.S.H.A. safety with a 3.09 GPA, I graduated from Madison College in Industrial Maintenance and Electrical Power with a 4.0 GPA, and I started and completed one semester with a Pell Grant toward my Associate's Degree with a 3.54 GPA, I graduated from UW Odyssey Beyond Bars and became alumni for the program, and once I was released I immediately continued my studies and my goals of bettering my life. I'm also currently a student at UW Madison and at Inspire Barber College where I'm weeks away from earning my Master's Barbers license.

My hobby became a business because I saw that it was a way to bring people together during hard times; this made my love for the craft become my passion and I've been doing it since I was in grade school. I started to do it professionally because I was always sought out by the community due to my skills. I was always a part of what made people feel good and, without realizing it, there were a lot of people that were watching me. This led to me being picked up by two record companies and I traveled the country doing what I love best.
Providing people with memorable moments has been the most gratifying part of my craft and I now want to not only provide this service, but to also provide a life and a future for my family with it. I have 36 years of experience being a DJ and over 20 years of experience doing it professionally.
What is the purpose of this loan?
The loan will be used to purchase additional equipment which I need in order to be able to carry out my service professionally and with quality. What I need to expand my business is the following: a self-powered PA system for sound that will handle large-sized venues, a MacBook pro which is the only computer that will handle the programs and software used for Serrato DJ pro uninterrupted, and the rest will go into marketing and promotion in which I can build a website, flyers, and banners. Although the main reasons are to buy this equipment, the most important reason would be for me to flourish so that those around me can flourish as well.

We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.

"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
