A loan helped to buy more liquor, like beer and spirits, and soft drinks for resale.

Margret's story

Margret is 34 years old and lives in the town of Mganjo in the Kawempe region of Uganda. She is married and has four children, with three of them currently in school. For the past six years, Margret has been working hard to manage her bar business, where she sells liquor.

To help expand her business, Margret has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings [UGX] from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more liquor, like beer and spirits, and soft drinks for resale. This will help Margret to generate greater profits and invest more in her business and buy food for her family.

Margret hopes that in the future, she will be able to buy a piece of land and build rentals.

Margret is a member of BRAC's Microfinance program (MF). The program primarily serves small group members like Margret who do not have collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
