A loan helped an African American and LGBTQIA business owner to purchase merchandise for her design business.

Lakeisha's story

My name is Lakeisha of Fayetteville Arkansas, founder of Design by Bey, located in Northwest Arkansas (NWA) with a population of over 500,000 now. NWA has ranked in recent years as one of the best places to live in the United States due to our beautiful outdoors, thriving art scene, and jobs due to three Fortune 500 companies being located here. I started this company this past year during the pandemic to make another revenue stream for my family. During that time I began creating items such as face masks, shirts and blankets for the homeless, and other products for disenfranchised people in my community. During the pandemic it was hard for me to keep up with the demand for certain items, therefore I had to get help from friends to launch, for which I am thankful. I've always had a passion for design and creating things that people love. I’ve been involved in the community by helping promote local musicians with my other business Rich Entertainment and Promotion, LLC and making promotional materials for them. I also work in my community to bring awareness to cancer research, civil rights advocacy, gender rights, and making sure women have a voice in places that have normally closed us out. Since my four children are all now adults, I can now focus more on my passion for serving others and increase my product line and hopefully obtain my own building one day to provide customers with a showroom.
