Afonso's story

Afonso is a 45-year-old Mozambican. He lives in Namuno, Cabo-Delgado, Mozambique. He is a hardworking and enterprising man with many years of experience in farming; he grows maize and other cereals. Afonso also buys agricultural surpluses such as maize and other cereals from small farmers to resell in the market.

Afonso had the opportunity to benefit from IDE's business training and financial literacy related to savings, planning, farming as a family business, costs, and pricing. This knowledge helped him maximize his sales profits.

Afonso is applying for his first Kiva loan to buy more agricultural surpluses especially maize, to better meet the growing demand for cereals and to increase his income. Maize is part of the diet of many families in his village.
