A loan helped to purchase farm inputs and boost her crop productivity to meet the needs of her children.

Lily's story

Get to know Lily, pictured in her beautiful tea farm, a single mum of three, who is a strong-minded woman. She lives on her farm in a humble village near the town of Kericho in Kenya. Lily is blessed with beautiful children, and she works hard to ensure they have a decent lifestyle. Kericho has favorable weather conditions that benefit maize farmers. Lily is a crop farmer, although she also rears dairy cows and keeps poultry for the production of eggs.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer, and seed allocation by the government are way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

Lily is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds to improve her farm yield and make more profit from sales to support her family. She has a great desire to succeed and also has a desire that Kiva lenders listen to her request and help her better her life. She thanks her lenders for their generous support.
