Glicerio, 45, is married to Julia, 43. They have 7 children but only four still live with them in their own house located in Sanchirio (Peruvian central jungle). Courageous and honest Glicerio has been growing coffee and bananas for two years. He used to work as a hired hand on fields that belonged to other people but now, with much effort and dedication, he managed to acquire a small, one hectare, piece of farmland. This is how he started to plant his own fruits and grains.
His banana crops are quite the success. Because they are new plants, they produce very good fruit. He sells the coffee to Juan, who is a middle man that constantly visits the area. Glicerio’s plans are to improve his plantings and to buy more hectares of farmland.
This is his first loan with MFP and, as a new communal bank member, he hopes to increase capital to invest in production improvement. If he were to get the requested loan, he plans to use it to buy 8 sacks of organic manure to spread among his coffee plants. If there is still money left over he will hire field hands to help him care for his farmland.
