A loan helped a Black-Women owned Media Company reimagine community through a creative lens.

Lexi's story

I am Lexi S. Brunson, owner & active Editor-in-Chief of CopyWrite Magazine. With my role at CopyWrite, I have built a creative network that not only showcases the creative community but serves as advocates and mentors for young writers, designers, and creatives. Obsessed with all things Urban, I am a creative who believes in the importance of building community within the city that raised me, MKE! I have a BFA in Interior Architecture & Design from MIAD, which has guided my research of Urban spaces and has helped me achieve a Masters degree in Media Studies from UW-Milwaukee. Journalism became my passion after seeing that the voices of Black and Brown creatives in our community were underrepresented. The work I do now directly correlates with changing that narrative.

As I lead a group of young Black & Brown freelance creatives who are eager to find their footing in an ever-changing digital landscape, I am proud to take the unorthodox path of entrepreneurship where our unique scope of the world defies typical cultural constraints. We have built a platform that connects, informs, and interacts with the community through the web, social media, events, printed magazines and our media services. We pride ourselves on our active collaboration and narrative shifting.

We will tell the stories that need to be told and always showcase the unrealized artistic potential throughout our community while doing the things we love: Create.
