A loan helped a female-founded small business expand access to healthy and sustainable protein products.

Kate's story

Hi, my name is Kate. I am a third-generation Idahoan on both sides of my family. Growing up in Idaho instilled strong ethics in conservation and environmentalism in my character. From an early age, the privilege of communing with nature gave me a strong sense of stewardship.

I have been an outdoor educator and wilderness river guide for over fifteen years. In tandem, I pursued a master's degree in nutrition science at the National University of Natural Medicine, where I learned about entomophagy. Entomophagy is the practice of eating insects and 2.5 billion people currently practice this. These studies taught me that I could be a part of a solution that cures the planet's most pressing issues. Suppose I could normalize insect protein in the western world. In that case, I could make some significant impacts: Offering healthy protein alternatives that help meet daily nutritional demands, Conserving wild lands, protecting biodiversity, replenish aquifers and regenerate healthy food systems, and Combat global hunger.

The world's problems are many, and sometimes they can be paralyzing. The business I founded helps me use my time and energy toward impactful solutions for many of them. I am a mother to a 4-year-old and am strongly invested in the future. I believe that the health of humans is inextricably tied to the earth's health. Orchestra Provisions' products are a solution to making both healthier.

A protein crisis has already arisen. Protein is resource intensive and expensive, but that doesn't change the fact that it is an essential macronutrient for all humans. My nutrition studies inspired our proprietary recipes that use insects as ingredients and offer a robust platform for compelling sales arguments for personal nutrition that's simultaneously gentle on the earth.
