I am a social entrepreneur who was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the USA. Upon graduating from college, I returned to DR to rediscover her 'roots," but I never imagined that Miss Rizos would be born in that process. I graduated from Ursinus College in Pennsylvania and the American University in Aix-en-Provence in France, where I obtained degrees in Political Science and French. I am also an ASHOKA and Tory Burch Fellow, completing a business certificate at Dartmouth. I participated in the Sephora Accelerate Program and many other social entrepreneurship experiences that have strengthened my leadership and business skills.

Miss Rizos Salon is a purpose-driven company that is trying to change the world one curly at a time by teaching women and girls how to love themselves just the way they are. We operate two curly hair salons, one in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the other in New York City, where we see over 1500 people monthly.
Over ten years ago, Miss Rizos was born in the Dominican Republic as an online platform that educates, celebrates, and advocates for curly women and girls. We’ve operated our two curly salons for over eight years. We will launch our curly hair products that embody all the experience, love, and commitment we have for our community as we try to continue to impact our community.
We also have a foundation that teaches little girls about identity, curly hair care, and empowerment. We've reached over 5,000 through these workshops and over 12,000 girls and boys with our comic books that teach kids about their constitutional right to wear their hair curly.
In this upcoming year, we hope to continue to grow our company through the launch of our curly hairline.
What is the purpose of this loan?
We are applying for this loan because we need a boost to launch our curly hair products successfully. The products will allow us to take the salon to new heights and grow our company beyond our wildest dreams.
We will use the funds to pay for inventory, warehouse space, and a logistics person. That means these funds will allow us to grow our team and support the e-commerce part of our business.
This loan will significantly impact our company as it will help us reach our goals and successfully launch our products. We have already invested a lot of funds, women's power, sweat, and tears to get to this point, but we need a hand to reach the finish line.
This loan and the launch's success will help us continue to provide employment to over 40 women in the US and the Dominican Republic.

What is the disbursed date?

"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
Do Kiva borrowers pay any interest on their loans?
Our partners collect interest from borrowers because there are many operational expenses associated with microfinance in developing markets, especially in rural areas. Many of Kiva's Lending Partners also provide additional services alongside their loan products such as business training, financial literacy lessons, or health services.
Kiva will not partner with an organization that charges unreasonable interest rates, and we require Lending Partners to fully disclose their rates. In addition, we only partner with microfinance institutions and organizations that have a social mission to serve the poor, unbanked, and underserved.
