A loan helped a widow to buy modern farm inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds to improve her crop production.

Julia's story

Julia, a widow, is known in her remote village because of her contagious smile and ever-present jovial nature. She is a mother of cute children, whom she loves and cares for.

She is a rural farmer who hails from the Kitale region of Kenya. From her own perspective, Julia believes that a lack of access to credit services is the only deterrent to a smallholder farmer’s success.

Julia has always had a passion for farming, especially milking her cows. She has applied for this loan in order to purchase farm inputs, such as fertilizers and seeds, to boost her yields and improve her crop production and sales, so that she can have enough money to educate her children.

Julia is an idealistic woman, and her goal for this season is to boost her crop production above the level of the previous year. One objective that Juhudi Kilimo aims at fulfilling is increasing the ease of accessing farm inputs and income-generating assets for farmers.

Through the intervention of Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, inputs have become more accessible to its members. Be inspired this planting season and put a smile on the face of a female smallholder farmer by kindly granting her a loan!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
