A loan helped a member to buy more chickens, supplies to reinforce pens, and feed.

Emprendedoras De Guapinol Group's story

Thirty-eight-year-old Nidia, a married mother of two children (7 and 11) was fortunate to graduate from school with a teaching degree. However, she has never taught but instead has worked with her husband for over 7 years at their poultry business. Their business has grown and now they deliver to 50 customers in nearby communities. Their goal is to enlarge the business even more and reach new markets.

With her first Kiva loan Nidia will buy more chickens along with building materials like wire, sheet metal and wood to reinforce and enlarge the pens. Some of her income will be earmarked toward the continuing the education of her children who are in the 1st and 5th grades.

Nidia is the president of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Emprendedoras de Guapinol” in the department/state of San Marcos. The seven women in the group have corn mills, convenience stores, poultry businesses and raise pigs. They meet monthly, make loan payments and then participate in an educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program. They look forward to an educational training that helps them improve their businesses, empower themselves and take care of their families.

The loan support provided by Kiva investors, along with the monthly educational training, is essential for these women to empower themselves, educate their children and create their own pathways out of poverty. Thank you to each of you!!!
