A loan helped a member to gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Grace's Group's story

This season is not the first one that Grace is working alongside One Acre Fund. She has been a member for a few years now, having joined the program in 2012. Although she is the only person featured in the above picture, she is actually representing her group of eight farmers in Matete District, Kenya.

Grace is often described by her community as a very trustworthy person. She decided to be the one to represent her group because she was just proposed by the team. Like many of her fellow farmers, Grace decided she wanted to be part of the One Acre Fund community in order to earn enough to feed her family and hopes to use the profits from this year’s harvest to send her children to school.

This loan will help not only Grace but the whole group, who will receive maize seeds and fertilizer to plant a total of 4.4 acres of land. Additionally, some of the farmers in the group will be purchasing a solar light, so with this loan, the group will also receive a total of four solar lights.

In this group: Grace, Sarah, Roda , Rhodah, Saidi , Elizabeth , Anzemo, Jones

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
