Carmen Tulia's story

Carmen Tulia is a young indigenous farmer from Buenos Aires, Cauca. Carmen is a single mother who lives with her two children in a house that she recently finished building with the profits received from her crops.


Carmen has been cultivating her crops for more than 10 years using traditional harvesting techniques. Carmen owns a two hectare plot of land that was awarded by her indigenous council, where she has sown 4,500 coffee plants, along with a small batch of vegetable crops which she uses for her family’s consumption. She sells her coffee production to diverse distributors from different regions in the country.


A loan of $2,510,225 COP helps Carmen purchase organic fertilizer that will strengthen her coffee’s final production of the year.
