Chirleth Magaly is 34 years old, single, has 3 children, and lives with her family in the municipality of Tela. She has been selling clothes from home for 3 years. She was previously a housewife.

Currently, she is requesting a loan from ODEF in the amount of 31,000 lempiras, which she plans to invest in buying clothing for women, men, and children, such as pants, t-shirts, dresses, blouses, skirts, shorts, shoes, etc. She is grateful for the financial support.

She considers that the loan will help her increase inventory and sales, and with the profits she will provide a better quality of life for her family, thus giving her children a good education, herself being able to study and having her own store.

Anteriormente era ama de casa. Actualmente, está solicitando un préstamo a ODEF por la cantidad de 31,000 Lempiras los que planea invertir en la compra de ropa para damas caballeros y niños como ser: pantalones, camisetas, vestidos, blusas, faldas, calzonetas, zapatos, etc. Agradece por el apoyo financiero, considera que el préstamo le servirá para incrementar el inventario y las ventas y con las utilidades brindará mejor calidad de vida a su familia, dándole un buen estudio a sus hijos, estudiar ella y tener un local propio.

Single mothers are an especially vulnerable segment in many developing countries. A woman is generally left as a single mother for one of two reasons: because her partner has died (often due to conflict, war or disease) or because her partner has abandoned her. These women are forced to play both roles, father and mother, and must provide their children with eveything they need, including education, healthcare, housing, food and clothing. They must do all of this with only one source of income, which is normally lower than what a man in the same circumstances would earn. This situation makes them an especially vulnerable segment in Honduras. ODEF is supporting these women by offering them Kiva loans with interest rates below their standard rate.
