A loan helped restore a building in a post-industrial town to house the kitchen for my food truck and an event space.

Michael's story

I am a third-generation chef and the second to attend the Culinary Institute of America, and I have a passion for cooking and spending time with my family. Being self-employed allows me ample time to be a father to my two young children, Jasper and Jamison. Much of our time is spent going to museums, science centers, water parks, and various outings. The time we spent together is precious, and being self-employed enables me to do this. That’s been most of my life growing up around food, kitchens, and even in my own home; I would say 70% of our time is spent in the kitchen. Our entire home life is based around food and great conversations around the dinner table. The last few years in business have been very trying… just run-away costs due to hyperinflation, food, gas, etc. however, I still feel firm that self-employment is the only way to stay relevant in my children’s life. Self-employment is the best avenue to prosperity, and feel things will normalize again.
